The Balancing Act Between Original and Imitation!
Everyone knows it, you like an expensive fragrance, you have been indoctrinated over the years or even decades that only quality ingredients were used. This calmed the conscience to open the wallet for a perfume that is almost as expensive as printer ink. There is no need for historical context or celebrity stories. One can also be taken for a ride regarding quality awareness if one is too gullible.
If someone copies something, then someone else was faster. The familiar becomes subconsciously the standard, and what comes after has it harder on paper. The original is a powerful factor.
But not an unbeatable one. Would one belittle Mazzolari fragrances as dupes? With the copy of "Nero", it is currently even more favored on Parfumo than its original, Aventus. And "Al Haramain" is also a niche brand that does not solely focus on copying Creed.
However, they offer their fragrances at a much lower price. Now one might believe that the fragrances are of inferior quality and therefore worthless (the minimum regulations are the same for everyone), reflecting the factor of originality, yet still engage with the offer:
That’s exactly what I at least tried to do. Since I own 5 Creeds myself, it would be easy for me to make the present one look old. But what would I gain from that?
I am not an exaggerated fan of SMW, just like I am not of Aventus. For me, the fragrance always stands above the brand. So I can easily dismiss a Creed and appreciate others.
However, since a friend is a convinced SMW wearer, he was the main test subject and sponsored his SMW bottle for a direct comparison:
He just didn’t know what was happening when I showed up with a blindfold and earplugs. Why earplugs? Bottles spray differently, so you can still easily distinguish between 2 spray units without needing to recommend yourself as the betting king on "Wetten, dass?". If you’re going to do it, then do it right!
He got 2 sprays on each arm, and I did the same. Without revealing too soon, he had an initial suspicion that he revised after about 30 minutes. I also could no longer distinguish between the two fragrances after this time. He guessed correctly for me, by the way, but not for himself.
SMW has something metallic from the very beginning, which I personally do not like at all. L'aventure Blanche does not have that. Fairly, after 10 minutes, if you concentrate very hard, there is something like a swimming pool note in Blanche that flashes for a few minutes. Does that already speak for the original?
In the further development of the fragrance, the challenger appears rounder. That does not make it a more feminine fragrance. Rather, it makes it a more plausible unisex fragrance. At least from the outset, SMW still has more masculine tendencies.
To my great surprise, I heard the female ratio for this fragrance is 0%. And that was the actual reason for me to write a comment about a fragrance to which I have no real connection (nor to the original) and to issue a test invitation, especially for the ladies.
I would rather wear L'aventure Blanche than the Creed because, to be honest, I like it significantly better, and my buddy, the SMW wearer, has already stocked up on L'aventure Blanche. Thus, he will not be repurchasing SMW.
Which seems more than plausible to me. If after 30 minutes you fail to distinguish between the original and the copy on your skin, and the copy lasts a good 8-9 hours with more projection, there are few rational reasons left to spend almost 5 times for little tangible prestige. I gladly repeat myself: it’s better to invest the money in a fragrance that hasn’t been copied at this level. And from my perspective, that is above that of the prominent black cube.
I also extend an invitation to Al Haramain to try their hand at my favorite Royal Oud. I would be more than curious about the result.
I would also like to say a word about the bottle rating. It may look pretty, but it is completely impractical. You can see every fingerprint, and from a tactile standpoint, it feels very solid and valuable, but from an ergonomic perspective, it’s a disaster. Cubic bottles just don’t sit well in the hand. The outer packaging, a poorly crafted plastic box, rather casts doubt on the impression of the fragrance, which is avoidable. Sometimes less is more.
