Is this the solution: Never go to the hairdresser again?
When I finally managed to squeeze my long-overdue hair appointment into my calendar today, I had what you might call an epiphany experience. Upon entering my hair salon, I stood frozen in the doorway - soaking wet from the nasty rain. What did my eyes see: On the shelf right across from me: FRAGRANCES, and I mean the full range from Nasengold, Carven, and Escentric Molecules. Only by summoning all the willpower I had was I able to FIRST attend to my hair appointment - and only then to test. Conveniently: while I sat in that little chair getting snipped, I could extensively research and decide in advance which fragrances would take their place on my arms.
And the winners are: Nasengold G. and Nasengold L
Nasengold G. immediately attracts me with its grapefruit component. I LOVE grapefruit, but I always find it quite tricky in perfumes, at least that's how it is for me. Sometimes it disappears within seconds, sometimes it smells somehow sweaty, sometimes it smells extremely artificial. So, while a good grapefruit scent might not completely transport me - it certainly brings me close to ecstasy.
And that's exactly what it is, the G. An unbelievably good grapefruit scent! When I looked at the fragrance pyramid, I was a bit taken aback: Sulfur?? Do I want to smell like a matchstick? Complete nonsense, somehow the sulfur seems to fix the grapefruit scent and keep it in this pleasantly bitter freshness. But those who suspect that G. is just another citrus summer scent are gravely mistaken. Because after enjoying this wonderful grapefruit-ginger-pepper blend for a good one to two hours (all my favorite top note components in one - I'm about to flip out), something happens and suddenly G. becomes more floral, softer, more sensual. Oh man, does it smell good - and underneath I can still smell that top note. How does that work? To me, it smells like I imagine the best scented rose in the world: delicate, yet lush, velvety-elegant. No trace of cloying, sour, or dominant. Just beautifully caressing. And again, G. gives you time to enjoy the new unfolding, because only very gradually do darker nuances join in: a hint of leather - but the delicate, soft leather of beautiful (and usually extremely expensive) bags, vetiver - but not bristly or straw-like, rather the kind that sways gently in the wind, a bit of wood adds more substance: And yes, then it comes, towards the end: the cocoa. I find the idea of incorporating such a completely unrelated element simply brilliant. The scent has this playful wink, a not-taking-itself-too-seriously vibe that I love. It plays with expectations - only to then veer off in a direction that completely surprises you. During the scent test, I kept thinking: How cool, I would never have thought it would go on like this! What is also very quirky about the scent: it somehow loops back. So not the classic progression: top-heart-base, but unexpectedly, fragrance notes reappear that you thought had already said goodbye. Sometimes pure like before and sometimes newly mixed.
It’s a scent you can really immerse yourself in - for hours. I keep discovering new facets.
I am definitely head over heels in love and facing a very, very difficult decision: Should I switch my really excellent hairdresser to avoid temptation - or do I just need to plan a bigger budget for my next visit…
