My mother never got her driver's license. This was sometimes a hindrance, but she had my father, who loved being her chauffeur. However, he had to work, and so there were situations where a driver's license would have been quite helpful. One of those was the ironing service. When we had bed linens or tablecloths washed, I would be called into the kitchen and had to stand opposite my mother. With both hands, I held one side of the sheet or table linen tightly stretched. My mother held the two other corners in one hand, because first, she had to dampen the laundry with water from a transparent, flexible rubber bottle. The nozzle on the bottle was orange and resembled that of a watering can, but the stream was very soft and light. The dampened laundry was then pulled tight by her on the other end just as I had done, and in the manner of a baroque social dance, we moved towards and away from each other until a perfect little package was folded. Then we repeated the elaborate procedure. When the laundry basket was full, we each took a handle in hand and walked to the ironing service, which was about a ten-minute walk away. How much I wished back then that my mother had been as emancipated in driving matters as I perceived her to be in other ways. On the other hand... it was wonderful to enter the ironing service with the heavy basket, set it down, feel an immense lightness, and at the same time inhale the scent of warm, freshly ironed laundry. I loved that smell, and nothing has ever changed about that. Even during my studies, I had my bed linens ironed, and it was no less complicated to transport the laundry basket to the ironing service without a car. On the other hand, it didn't bother me; it was more complicated to constantly take the laundry to the laundromat on the other side of town. I actually solved this problem by buying a mini washing machine, which still exists today. I fondly remember that time: My wonderful laundromat. My beloved ironing service. Even today, I would never forgo the luxury of ironed bed linens; only the procedure has improved significantly. I no longer have to dampen the laundry, and I don't take folding it as seriously anymore since I found out that the woman at the ironing service doesn't care how I bring her the laundry. No one seems to take it so seriously with us - a beloved pair of black patent leather high heels that my husband was supposed to take to the cobbler, which suddenly went missing for inexplicable reasons, was found months later in a forgotten basket of ironed laundry - by then it was deep autumn, and I postponed the repair until next year.
It goes without saying that I discovered laundry scents for myself at the latest when I joined Parfumo, yes, not only that; I felt almost obliged to try various ones to rediscover the scent of those days. To get this out of the way: The most authentic scent of an ironing service I recognize in
The Muse. The most pleasant laundry scent I wear is
Clean Reserve Avant Garden - White Amber & Warm Cotton. However, the most frequently used scent of this kind I have actually found in
Pure Soap. This is probably because I mainly use it in winter when I, the constant sweet tooth, urgently need a change from all the lovely winter gourmands.
Pure Soap is for me the most wintery scent, because the theme of soap adds to the theme of laundry - and that, in turn, means winter, bathtub, fine Italian soaps for me. In summer, I much prefer to shower.
Pure Soap actually smells at first like a pure, clear, fresh soap, without any additional perfume other than that which supports the soap scent. This delightful, more elegant than coarse opening is so intense that for a while I thought I had truly found a pure soap scent in
Pure Soap. That is no longer the case; after some time, I realized that the heart note contains laundry aromas, much more laundry aromas than soap aromas, but it is a dry, warm, ironed laundry, not wet laundry that comes out of the machine with fabric softener aromas. This heart of the perfume lasts for many hours, yet fine remnants of the original soap aroma always linger, and for that reason, I truly perceive
Pure Soap as a brilliant scent within its category. It fits perfectly into winter. I wear it not only as a change from gourmands but also when I seek mental clarity, when I am looking for clarity because I have become confused or even lost by something. The perception of these strong associations with purity, clarity, freshness, and the thought that one can achieve this clarity oneself - at least physically with a bath - usually lifts me up to regained mental clarity. How soothing this scent is! And of course, it is also not as expensive as other laundry scents, which is also a clear (!) advantage of
Pure Soap. Anyone who likes this kind of scent will be well advised with the Clean scent. It truly is the epitome of "clean".
