Actually Woody
2018-03-08-12-## UTC --

Another outlier in terms of value-for-minlet! I spent about an hour in the store when I acquired this, spraying the tester, intraspiring of it, walking away (& sometimes trying other 'fumes, sometimes not), assuring myself @ one if the apothecaries on duty "so that is actually ^that^" (pointing), thinking all-the-while "there's got to be some catch!" - but there actually isn't! However, the unit-cost-rebate curve is ^extremely^ steep fræ 50ml to 100ml - £55 to £70 (which is another matter I had to ascertain scrupulously); and given how much I like it, ^that^ was a no-brainer!

It is basically super-musky, & ^actually^ smelling strongly of wood y-cutten. Then there is also that aquatick note; so if uw like, uw've got a stream in a forest swarming with rutting deer!

Or rather, rutting erlenmeyer flasks, swan-necked alembicks, & bains marie, etc.! Still, I'm no advocate of slaughtering animals to get cosmetick substances.

Light Lumberjack Shirt (100% Polyester)
The scent was never on my wish or watch list, and otherwise, Dsquared² as a brand has mostly passed me by, but since it was being sold cheaply and I needed a little filler to reach the free shipping threshold, a small bottle found its way into my perfume cabinet.

In the 30ml format, the bottle is not as rustic and wooden as its larger siblings, but rather clear glass with just a plate of Red Alder on top - the color and grain of the wood remind me of beech.
The liquid shimmers bluish-green.
Not exactly extravagant, but pretty, simple, and also a bit special.

When I think of its home Canada, I naturally have various clichés in my head: endless primeval forests, the famous North Shore Trails of British Columbia, bears, and rugged types in rustic flannel shirts.
Together with the name INTENSE He WOOD, this creates a certain expectation or bias for me.
You can't blame the scent if you approach it with preconceived notions, but the surprise that followed the first sprays was quite striking:
Pure synthetic, instead of down-to-earth flannel.

Slightly aquatic at the start - fortunately not so strong that it bothered me - and from the beginning with the already mentioned violet. And a lot of it.
The aquatic breeze quickly dissipates, but the violet remains. Along with it, there’s a hint of - yes, what is it - is that the listed incense pushing to the surface here? I'm not sure, especially since the whole mixture, as already mentioned, smells quite synthetic.
It sounds negative the way I describe it, but fundamentally the scent is very pleasing. And I like it too. Especially since, after the initial frown, the wooden base slowly begins to reveal itself.
A pleasant, warm, but somewhat indefinable wood note, which is supposed to consist of several woods, and really just smells like wood. Not at all like a forest and not like nature, more like in a furniture store, or like in the IKEA self-service warehouse, where raw woods mix with plastics, paints, and stains.
And also rather sweet.

Not a dry wood scent, but a sweetly warm mixture, in which amber probably plays a certain role and perhaps a leftover violet.
I can't prominently pick out any of the listed woods, maybe the fir at the end and a bit of pencil-like cedar in between alongside thinly wafting vetiver, but at least the scent lives up to its name at the base.

However, not to my previous associations. The endless forests deforested, the impressive North Shore Trails flattened into forest highways, and the rugged types have only seen a bear at the city zoo at most.

All in all, still a likable scent with solid longevity - it easily lasts a workday on my skin - and with good projection. The sillage is noticeable, but doesn't push too much, and based on my experiences, it is generally received favorably.

Softie-Fahrenheit
Dsquared is indeed a striking, special, and now also a recommendable brand, I must admit. Potion remains my number 1 and will definitely be due again in the colder days, even though Gucci PHI is even better. But the He Wood line - well. I didn't like the original, Rocky Mountain Wood was very good, but then somehow just a weaker Encre Noir. The other He Woods were above-average. Where does the brand new He Wood Intense fit in?

Violets, creamy musk, and light wood. And please write violets in italics, bold it, and underline it twice. It is definitely not my favorite flower and at first, it is quite unpleasantly violet-heavy. But then the scent becomes more beautiful, creamier, lighter, softer. Almost a softie is emerging. The number 1 violet remains, of course, Fahrenheit, the absolute king, which is more masculine and beautiful. This wood here is very floral and synthetic - it smells like the original, very much of artificial wood, which could be more part of an art exhibition than part of nature.

Bottle: this time entirely made of wood and I find it a bit clumsy.
Sillage: absolutely usable and nicely balanced.
Longevity: also here quite appealing 7-8 hours.

For me, better than the original, but not necessarily more intense, as the name is confusing again. However, you have to like violets - Grey Flannel and Fahrenheit send their regards and are somewhat like the previous violet generations.

Tasty licorice wood, best at its release date, but still good afterwards. Such a shame. R.I.P my friend...

As described: pure wood.
Smells like a freshly cut tree. I wouldn't necessarily want to smell like that, but it's fun to sniff.

Sweetly grated intense fir. Better than Rocky Mountain Wood.
