A Purely Purple Disappointment
This is literally a wrist sniffer. IE, you can't smell it unless you sniff your wrist.

Tired of not being able to smell it on me, on the weekend I soused myself in 20 sprays. 5 minutes later, another 20 sprays. Still no trail. It's only to be smelled if I sniff my wrists. That isn't what I wanted. For such a faint scent, it does manage to last 4 hours but what's the point you can't smell it unless you sniff it.

As to the cyclamen reference, intrigued, I went and smelled my intensely flowering, hot pink, cyclamen, and it does have a warm, softly spicy, and a fine but definite petroleum scent - like a water lily or orchid - this petroleum scent is in my cyclamen flowers pretty strong in the morning unlike the perfume which is not strong any time.
The perfume is warm, nutty, a hint of gingerbread biscuits. I am a lover of marzipan, and I could not smell marzipan. Sometimes there is an out of place soapy, lemon waft. Then a soft suede scent intermingles with a warm, fuzzy/heathery/woolly scent. The dry down smells like a handful of pot pouri thrown on a slow combustion oven in the tack room or the engine room/machinery shed where the old saddles are kept. A warmed up undifferentiated pot pouri, leather and soap smell.

I bought this blind, hoping for a violet and/or marzipan scent. It wasn't there.

Surprisingly fresh gourmand
Pure Purple is more of a gourmand to my nose, not so much a fruity floral in my humble opinion.

This fragrance is indeed delicate and sweet, but not in a sickening way. When first applied, Pure Purple smells like gingerbread cookies. There are hints of sugar, ginger, spices and almond. Just sniffing it was making me hungry.

In the heart, the scent continues with its sweetness. Candied violets and white cyclamen with an overload of sugar. Nectarine makes a brief appearance right before the drydown, rather than in the top notes, however the leather overshadows the fruitiness of the scent.

The leather in Pure Purple is not like the leather in let's say Bandit by Robert Piguet. This is leather that can appeal to a younger audience; synthetic and subtle. The lasting strength is really good and the sillage not very strong but not subtle either.

I find Pure Purple to be a little different, not exactly what you'd expect from a mainstream brand. Purple doesn't seem to be the right colour for this scent. I'm thinking a reddish brown or even black would compliment this fragrance better.

Madame Marzipan loves almond-sweet or the ultimate craving for marzipan potatoes
The deciding factor for reaching for the bottle about eight years ago was its similarity to Hypnôse by Lancôme. My signature scent back then. I was curious and perhaps a bit annoyed. Why such a blatant copy? But never mind. Now it’s part of my collection and I’m very happy about it. Another scent that has never left me cold and unfortunately isn’t so easy to find anymore. A heartfelt thank you to Ronja for the nice souk deal.

While the also twisted bottle of Hypnôse is simply very elegant to look at and has a beautiful emblem on the cap, Deep Purple feels urban and chic. The edges are slightly rounded and it features a color gradient from crystal clear to dark purple. I like the color and design. It also fits well with the contents.

At first, it starts off a bit rough. I perceive marzipan just like my predecessors from the very beginning. At first, it reminds me more of amaretto, but don’t worry. As a schnapps enthusiast, you won’t be labeled as such when wearing it. This impression, as interesting and strange as it may be, doesn’t last too long and makes way for a very authentic marzipan scent.
Spontaneous salivation, how delicious is that? It smells just like opening a bag of marzipan potatoes. Sweet, incredibly fine, perhaps a bit too foody, but who cares. Because shortly after, a powdery violet enriches our dessert. A really pleasant combination. The marzipan takes a bit of a back seat and gives the floral notes more room to breathe. A clean and sometimes slightly piercing note floats subtly along. I suspect it’s the alpine violet, which sometimes appears a bit too clean for my taste. The scent is still sweet. However, the marzipan has lost its firm consistency and gives the fragrance a certain smoothness. Still, it remains biteable. I can’t describe it as particularly fruity. The nectarine hardly stands a chance against the gourmand notes. A sparse fruity and indefinable nuance can be detected, which fortunately doesn’t negatively affect the progression.

In fact, the long-awaited suede also makes an appearance. Butter-soft and cream-colored. Very feminine and smooth. It’s a pity; I prefer my leather a bit rough and grippy. Similar to Cuir Cordoba. Perhaps those latter attributes would be out of place. This leather here wraps itself advantageously around the marzipan. It supports the lovely and powdery violet. Creates an elegant stage for the shy amber.

There aren’t any major changes from now on. From amaretto to fine marzipan, garnished with a violet that may seem a bit naive at first but finds an interesting partner in the leather.

For the sillage to be satisfactory for me, I have to apply a bit more. It will never be room-filling, but that’s a good thing. Marzipan overkill in the office sounds quite uncomfortable. I find the longevity to be good. It easily withstands a long workday. For the evening, however, one should spray a bit more.

Except for high summer or for sports, Pure Purple can be used in many ways. Especially now, during the cold autumn storms, it provides warmth and security. Still, it radiates something cheerful and light. It may be that it’s a bit too girly and sometimes too squeaky and edible for me. But I don’t care. When I feel like this calorie-free and terribly delicious marzipan grenade, I just reach for it. Perhaps not the best choice for moments of dark cravings. But it has to adapt to me. I simply give it a purple ribbon.

Anyone who doesn’t want to gain a few pounds during the pre-Christmas season and compete with the Christmas goose for the rising weight should give this scent a try. A treat for sweet tooths and it definitely satisfies the craving for marzipan potatoes.

purple rain
Today I had a dentist appointment.
Such dreadful activities strain my nerves, and I need a calming scent to waft into my nose in this inhospitable place.
I rummaged through my collection and reached for Pure Purple.
Yes! The delicate scent of marzipan immediately soothed me - accompanied by juicy nectarine and a serene violet.
On top of that, a fine leather scent lays itself.
My purple cloud, in which I was enveloped, prepared me well against the biting clinical smell.
In my ears, Prince intoned emotionally and slowly: Purple Rain.
What can I say - the treatment was bearable.
I was well prepared, after all.
Even my doc seemed in a good mood.
Somehow, Pure Purple is a harmless sedative.

Delicious!
Also for me: Love at the second sniff!
At first, I could only smell the alcohol somehow, but just a few seconds later: "Oh my goodness, this is delicious!"

Yes, sure, the scent is floral. But I simply cannot explain or (and do not want to) understand that there is supposed to be marzipan in the base. It is so incredibly present. You smell the fragrance for the first time and the gentle, by no means exaggerated, marzipan scent comes right at you. I haven't smelled something like this in a long time. I am really excited. I don't like to eat marzipan at all. But I obviously love to smell it. The fragrance is not intrusive at all. Not particularly sweet. Not particularly floral. I wouldn't have expected this from Hugo, but somehow everything fits for me here. The blend makes the scent so special.

My goodness, this is quite possibly the most beautiful thing I have tested in a long time. Hearts are swirling above my head... that smell like marzipan.
People, if you like this kind of thing, then you MUST try it, promise me that!

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the longevity at the moment, so I will leave this review out.

From the start, marzipan dominates - I really like that. Then comes the violet - I don't usually like it much, but here it works well.

Boss is not boring. Fluffy marzipan, subtly floral, just a hint of leather. Hugo really can do it.

A light gourmand that I loved wearing in the cold months. It's a shame it was discontinued!

Pure Purple - mhmm. Delicious marzipan, sweetly authentic, sophisticated. In my opinion, Boss fragrances used to have more character.
