Hello, you screen watchers! :D
Today I’m testing the scent of perhaps the most famous cream in the world: Nivea! And my title alludes to that right away. You know, it has always been a tradition among us Turks living in Germany to bring Nivea cream to our relatives and friends back in Turkey. And preferably in the largest possible containers, meaning those huge blue canisters. Especially the older generation wanted these creams, and for years I didn’t know why…
Back then, when I was younger, Nivea was simply much more expensive in Turkey and not available everywhere. But aside from that, relatives also wanted to see something new, something that was not so easily obtainable in Turkey at that time. This means that foreign souvenirs and gifts were always welcome. From Germany, of course, Nivea, which was always well-received. In addition, they wanted various other things, like a certain chocolate-hazelnut cream from a specific Italian manufacturer (yes, yes, Nutella, what else! You know, to this day, many people think there’s no better spread than this really unhealthy stuff… but precisely because it’s unhealthy, it apparently tastes so good, and believe me, I’ve tried many chocolate spreads… :DD), or other things like various cigarette brands (Marlboro…) etc.
And to this day, nothing has changed with our older relatives. At the end of January, for example, I’m flying to Turkey, and my suitcase will contain a few of those things… well, mainly actually just Nivea, which brings us back to the cream, and therefore I’ll now get to the scent :)
The scent:
Apart from the fact that the scent immediately reminds me of classic Nivea cream, I’ll try as always to break down what individual notes I can smell here. First, there are the citrus notes, especially bergamot with a little hint of mandarin. While the bergamot provides a fresh effect for a little while, the mandarins disappear immediately.
Next, I would guess lily of the valley and musk, maybe a little rose as well. Additionally, it also smells quite… creamy :D Ha ha ha, what else! Creamy is actually a perfect description here. It’s not just that the scent comes across as soft and creamy; it also smells, as mentioned, just like Nivea.
I believe, over time, I can smell the freesia, which has a slightly stuffy character. Towards the end, however, the scent becomes less floral and more reminiscent of Nivea cream again, now with a sweet musk note.
The sillage and longevity:
The scent is not particularly strong and feels more like a more fragrant version of regular Nivea cream. This means that at first it can be smelled for a while, but then it fades away and will probably only be perceived by most people from up close. The scent doesn’t last very long; I would say it’s gone after about six hours at the latest.
The bottle:
The bottle is round and white. It looks like the Nivea cream that has been freed from its blue aluminum container. On the front, Nivea is written in the famous Nivea font. There is no cap; the spray nozzle is integrated into the bottle. To use the scent, you simply press a blue button on the top of the bottle. And fittingly, the scent comes in a blue box. Design-wise, it’s simple but very fitting for the scent and the brand, so that’s okay!
So! I don’t think the scent is bad. I wouldn’t really use it myself, as I’m not a big fan of the Nivea scent (my mother even hates it… when I showed her the scent, I was shooed away within a second!), but still, the scent is olfactorily not bad and something different.
However, that could also be the downside of the scent, as it doesn’t come across to others as if you’ve applied perfume, but rather that you’ve smeared yourself all over with thick, greasy Nivea cream, and others might refuse to shake your hand because they would think you’d have a completely greasy and creamy hand afterward, baaah! :DD
Otherwise, the perfume captures the scent of the cream very well and is for me an all-rounder that can be used at any time, in any season, and in my opinion, it fits best during the day for work, school, studies, leisure, etc… but it doesn’t come across too well for going out.
Yes, Nivea fans can definitely give the scent a try; everyone else should look for other creamy scents that are much nicer, in my opinion.
Okay, that’s it for now. Have a nice evening and a great start to the week tomorrow!
