Fine if you like spices wrapped in plastic
Quercia has nothing that reminds me of an oak tree and resulted in a strong dislike. Opening has an offensive plastic type of smell which does become milder to a point but still hangs around for the life of the scent. Better description would be a mixture of plastic and spices. Moderate performance and pricey for what it is. Hard pass.

A walk in the airport
The first whiff from AdP Quercia takes me back many years. I was a teenager and this was not a style I wore myself, but I loved it. To me, it is not as much a walk in an oak wood as it is a walk in the morning hours through the departure area of perhaps Schiphol, Charles de Gaulle or Frankfurt Main, cirka 1991.
AdP (as in Acqua di Parma, not Aéroports de Paris...) Quercia is an excellent, fresh morning scent to me. It is a presence that lasts for many, many hours. It is also a very solid and linear scent that will last you the whole day, excellent quality

While you might say "What's not to like" at this point, this is not a bottle I own. I was close to, but gave up after 5-6 wearings. The reason was that I simply grew a bit tired of it. You see, it still sings "Good morning" well after 16:00, in a voice just a little bit more creaky and worn. Trying to break down exactly what happens, I realised that this perfume sings a song that lacks a baseline, and without it, it does not carry through and becomes ever so little annoying. Whatever counterpart Quercia had in the 80s-90s was grounded with a solid barbershop base, that ensured a safe landing sometime in the early afternoon.

The concept is not dissimilar to Colonia Essenza, although with very different ingredients: Colonia Essenza starts out smelling absolutely lovely, albeit very soapy. But after a time, whatever there was that supported the lovely high notes is gone. And from being an accomplished luxurious soap, it ends up being your regular one.

It is a bit of an Entzauberung process that happens. Acqua di Parma is generally expensive, and Quercia EDP especially so. So therefore, I cannot accept that the world class soprano voice from the morning hours sounds like my highly beloved, but not very musical grandmother after lunch.

Classic in a Modern Outfit
I have actually read all the statements about Quercia and in the end, I am the only one with my association to this beautiful perfume from Acqua di Parma. My husband has been wearing Quercia for the second day now and the scent suits him wonderfully. We both like it. This Italian oak reminds me of a fragrance I know very well. Last night, the long-awaited Eureka moment happened. It’s Tabac that I initially think of when I smell Quercia. Now please don’t be alarmed. This is by no means a fragrance twin, but the aura that Mr. Polly exudes when he wears Quercia is something I know all too well.

When I was a teenager, Tabac was quite popular among young men. Presumably, some were imitating their fathers or grandfathers who had already worn this scent. Others chose this classic because it is still affordable today. Mr. Polly’s grandfather had worn Tabac since it came on the market. And I always think of a very nice older gentleman I know from a riding stable when I think of Tabac.

When I look at the fragrance notes of both perfumes, it doesn’t surprise me why I perceive them as similar. We have 2x bergamot and petitgrain in the opening, as well as geranium in the heart, and also 2x a pronounced oakmoss note. Therefore, my nose (and Mr. Polly’s as well) draws certain parallels. Now, Tabac is of course a classic from 1959, while Quercia in the EdP concentration only came onto the market two years ago. And yes, these differences are also olfactorily evident.

In my statement about Quercia, I already mentioned that this mossy Italian is an absolutely modern scent. It gets this modern touch from a rich addition of cardamom (a note that I tend to be weak for, especially on men), a hint of tonka sweetness in the base, and patchouli. Tabac, on the other hand, is characterized by a pronounced lavender note and also neroli, which we do not find here. The tonka note integrates beautifully into the overall picture in Quercia. At no time does the scent develop sweet or even cloying nuances, which I really like. Probably because the sweet tonka bean has found the right counterparts here with earthy patchouli and of course the strong mossy base.

An all-around beautiful, fresh, traditional scent that I find has been composed absolutely modernly. In terms of projection, it is always well perceivable, yet completely without nerve potential, but with delightful understatement. At the same time, it scores with very good longevity. Clearly a recommendation - for young and old, of course!

Many thanks to Medianus76 for the sample.

Italian Vacation
Every year I spend a short vacation in southern Italy,
with Don Alfredo's family,
a cherished tradition.
My parents were friends with his family too,
and we played as children until the hot sun gave way to a mild evening.
By now, Don Alfredo is in his early 40s, an attractive man.
Steadfast, like an oak, he has become the head of the family.
His warm, brown eyes sparkle mischievously as he takes me into his arms for a greeting.
I can smell the finest cream on his cheeks,
made from olives harvested from his own trees.
As always, Don Alfredo is perfectly dressed.
He leads me to the courtyard of his palazzo.
The zesty scent of ripe citrus fruits mingles with Alfredo's ruggedly masculine fragrance.
At the tables, his wife waits, stunningly beautiful, in a white pantsuit.
She greets me warmly, like the rest of the family, a huge family,
related to each other in many ways.
There is a lively hustle and bustle,
everyone is talking over each other, calling across the table.
Don Alfredo and I sit in the still-warm moss and chat about old times.
Life is beautiful, it is vacation.
I will stay for another week
and then until next year.

Italian Elegant Lightness
Hello, this is the first comment I am writing on Parfumo. I am not a big writer and I cannot break down a perfume into its individual notes. But I think almost everyone can judge a fragrance.
When I was on vacation in Tuscany a year ago, I spent a lovely day in Florence. While crossing the famous Ponte Vecchio, I encountered a man with his wife, who was at least 10 years younger. Both were dressed impeccably and looked very pleasant. As they passed by me, I suddenly smelled a fragrance that I had never encountered in quite this way before.
A certain freshness combined with a subtle sweetness
And something slightly woody. But so perfectly balanced that the scent truly fascinated me. Somehow mysterious, interesting, and alluring.
I didn’t know which of the two it was, but that didn’t matter.
For me, this means it can be worn by both men and women.
Back in Germany, I immediately set out to find this fragrance. I sniffed my way through various perfumeries without success. During this time, I bought other great scents like Tom Ford's Oud Wood and Creed Aventus.
A week ago, I went to a new perfumery. It had just opened and had Acqua di Parma as one of its niche brands. I sniffed through all the bottles. And then I held the Acqua di Parma Quercia bottle in my hands. 100 ml, elegantly black. Quercia means oak in Italian. I sprayed 2 spritzes on a test strip, waited a moment, and smelled it. And my first thought was Florence... Ponte Vecchio... The couple. Elegant... Mysterious... Sexy and alluring. Bullseye.
I immediately took it with me, 100 ml for 205 euros. There is no smaller bottle of Quercia. Now I have it.

Sillage is superb. It is positively perceived by others.
And the longevity is absolutely fantastic. It lasts up to 8 hours.
I can only recommend this fragrance for those who love light, mysterious, and slightly sweet woody scents...
At 200 euros, I would never make a blind purchase anyway. But this fragrance is definitely worth it.
Thank you, Florence.

Good frag, but from the mids give off this slightly plastic smell. Leans more cool weather than summer, but it’s a solid all-year frag.

Not strictly oak, not strictly cedar or any other tree/wood, Quercia is a surprisingly pleasant peppery, woody and rather aromatic scent.

Rich mossy and woody scent speckled with fresh aromatics, warm spices, and lightly sweetened. Heavy oakmoss, cedar (not oak!), and spices.

Very sweet hesperides, like lemon marmalade.
Dry, artificial iso-wood, rough.
Bright cardamom lifts during the shower.
Sizzle and gone.

The scent pyramid promises a classic. Quercia is absolutely modern in its execution. This is how shower gel scent becomes elegant. Wonderful!

Oak? Spicy citrus freshness on dry wood and unfortunately too much of the sweet tonka bean. Nice, but you can get shower gel cheaper.
