A Goodnight Kiss: Nostalgic Bliss

To simplify it, A Goodnight Kiss is a classic style powdery floral aldehyde. But nothing about this fragrance can be simple, not for me at least. For starters, the way I came about owning it may make me a bit biased and emotional. Second, I know this was a fragrance made to recreate the scent of Roja's mother as she kissed him goodnight, and she is resting in peace. So, there is nothing simple about it. But it does smell exactly like a woman, a prim motherly lady, and how she would smell in close proximity. Her floral perfume, her powder, her lipstick and the natural human smell of musk we all get toward the end of the day. This is the smell of a goodnight kiss. A sweet kiss, a loving kiss, a gentle kiss. The meaningful kind. It is the smell of love.

The iris is gentle and glorious, the powder is a very realistic rice powder scent. If you have ever worn rice powder, it's unmistakable. There is prominent ambergris that gives it warmth, it's never too floral, there is a human musky quality to it. Everything about this fragrance is human. So, it makes it a bit emotional to wear it. For me at least.

It is elegant, it's understated, it's classic and it's very refined. It's comforting and I feel a range of emotions wearing it.

A Goodnight Kiss is a captivating fragrance. And it smells like powder, it smells like flowers, it smells like soft leather, it smells like musk....and it smells like love, nostalgia and beauty. It smells like a gift. And it smells like a memory. And I feel like a princess wearing it.

And there is no price on those things.

A kiss Of Love

A Goodnights kiss tells a beautiful story about Rojas early life, its a beautiful powdery, floral Chypre which I adore to wear even as a Man. Roja says this fragrance interprets feminine love which I totally agree upon! A Goodnights Kiss is a collectors item, For those who can admire the story behind the fragrance, Not just the regular individual who just wants to smell good considering the hefty price.

It’s no use

"Only kisses taste better!" was once an advertising slogan.
Hearts and co. are always a safe bet when it comes to selling.
Put a heart on it, and people are happy.

Now this gentleman Dove calls the perfume Good Night - Kiss.
And says it comes from mommy, so to speak. Hm. That doesn’t really have anything to do with eroticism.
What should one make of that?

I briefly racked my brain but couldn’t remember for the life of me how mom smelled when putting me to bed. Well, she didn’t go out afterward, so she must have smelled the same as always. Besides, I never wanted to go to bed, kisses or no kisses.

Out of pure curiosity, I wondered how things looked, or rather smelled, at Doves?
So here:
Like perfume! (I should have figured that out.)
I spent quite a while with the Goodnight Kiss, first out of curiosity, and then it just became unavoidable.

At first, there was almost a daunting elegance. The fine lady with the aldehydes is here, nose up, frigate alarm.
To the side, the LADIES' fragrance. Pretty, not suitable for me. Not at all.

At some point, I dug it out again. The same thing in green. But the nose had become curious now, wondering why it should sniff again and nodded to itself.
Do it again, it’s not so bad, I think!
In the meantime, I had sniffed various things nicely, powder for example.
The aldehydes now also come by more often without the made-up widow's wreath, of which I want to be a member someday. (Note to self: Don’t forget to get married!)

At some point, I found myself unusually awake, sniffing around in my white little bed. And I had a mental flash!
THAT must be what makes the Goodnight Kiss! THAT, what I smelled.
Soft, warm, white, elegant, cool, and delicately spicy fluffiness.
(A gentle waft, even though waft is a silly word. What fog banks do when they’re not rising. Noble fog banks!)

After various sniffing sessions, I actually managed to wear this perfume during the day.
Wow! I smell in broad daylight like I probably look at night. Definitely.
And a bit of grandiloquently formulated coziness is probably in there too.

One must never forget: Good night! That’s what it was called. And no arguments!
And exactly this slightly aloof-seeming strictness fascinates me. And distinguishes the Goodnight Kiss from little Oscar. For me.

Mom used her best soap and Nivea cream...

The scent has a story that precedes it. I am already influenced before I even smell it and immediately think of the following song.

When I listen to the gentle, soothing character of the song, it can be perfectly transferred to the scent.

Roja Dove, I have never really engaged with him as a person. One thing is certain for me, he must be older. My mom smelled different when going out. She smelled of Armani She and leather. Only when at home did she smell of Nivea. Therefore, the click of the can lid on the sink and the scent of the cream are irrevocably associated with my mother. And indeed Armani She with leather. And although a certain memory arises, Roja's mom must belong to an older generation.

I spray and smell a lot of aldehydes & powder. But also soap. It is intercepted by the powder and doesn’t directly foam in my mouth, but undoubtedly Roja's mom must have scrubbed herself well with her best soap beforehand, the pure soap stayed in the cupboard because of the occasion.
Flowers join in and suddenly I feel like I have an old classic in my nose. The scent feels very Guerlain-like to me, but to be a Guerlain, it is too soapy and does not drift into that deep, slightly animalistic spiciness. The flowers that would allow this, especially clove and orange blossom, are present, yet they always remain just out of reach. Trapped under powder soap. Only hinted at. Kissed.

And so the scent wafts around me. A little excited yet calming, the scent, which initially came across as unusually loud for Roja, becomes quieter, more delicate, and calmer. And it reminds me more and more of the aforementioned blue can. The soapiness decreases or I get used to it, and the scent develops a creamy powderiness. It seems as if mom has left, and only a trace of her scent lingers in the air, the taste of the scent kiss still on my lips. I taste this goodnight kiss. Indeed. Literally.

I do not want to deny it. The scent is a dream. Its character is gentle, its notes balanced and calming, its song loving. For a fraction of the price, I would find dreamy words. The theme hit. What keeps me so sober is the knowledge of its price. As much as I know that Roja scents are not created for my wallet, the open question remains whether the scent justifies the price. What do you pay for? A good scent? Roja's memory? This wonderful love letter to his mom?

To smell this goodnight kiss was my greatest desire. A dear perfumer made this possible for me. Without asking anything in return. For that, I thank you, in the spirit of the scent with a curtsy. :)

What is a Goodnight Kiss anyway…. A Goodnight Kiss can be anything….

…….he had already gone to bed, almost sleepy he still hears her quietly entering his bedroom.
The small nightlight on the console is still on and he sees how her long dark hair is artfully pinned up. Her face is made up in such a way that it appears very sophisticatedly unmade up. She looks at him. As earrings, she has put on her favorite chandelier, which shimmers in competition with her lipstick.
She is dressed in her evening gown made of a light silk fabric, a satin that is embroidered all over with creamy white flowers. She approaches, her chandeliers sparkling as she steps to the foot of his bed. With her gloved hands, she lifts the end of his sheet. He sees that her evening gown is open in the front… she continuously looks calmly into his eyes…. as she slowly pulls the sheet closer to herself, then bends down slowly, her lips almost touching the fabric…

A sea of moist, powdery scented white flowers overwhelms me right from the first spray. At first, I am shocked by this abundance, as the aldehydic accord greatly enhances this impression and also adds something dirty that I sense among all the flowers….

But wait, it can't be the aldehyde, such a thing doesn't come from aldehydes. It seems to originate from the base. ….. aaah... it’s an iris root. A strong, carrot-hued iris is anchored deep down there, one that likely holds all the base notes and the rest together. The carrot-like scent is not just simple little carrots, but much more the stems and the fresh green herb of a bunch of market carrots, still clinging to some earth.

I find this extremely refined. It grounds the fresh flowers, gives them corporeality and takes away the often mentioned madam-like and cloying touch. After about 2 hours, the perfume is much softer and I sniff how the violet has teamed up with the iris, the perfume becoming creamier and rounder, with my beloved May rose quietly shining through in the sea of flowers.

The character of the perfume behaves in its floral obsession during the further drydown. It remains flower-soft, in a powdery iris gentle manner and creamy fine softly.

A Goodnight Kiss is a strong, a fantastic modern floral cream scent. It does not disappoint me at any point and there is nothing I can criticize.

In everyday life, I recommend dosing the perfume carefully, it is an exceedingly seductive scent. Now in winter, I was outside with it, the cold air is a catalyst, the sea of flowers constantly announces love.

Now to the price. We tend to wear high-priced perfumes only on special occasions, which I think is wrong. Perfume lovers wear their treasures wherever and whenever they want.
This scent is exorbitantly expensive and one might try to generate a flaw from this circumstance. Be that as it may, my dear readers, I must say the perfume is of course ridiculously expensive and I throw in the towel.

But, smell for yourselves……
